The simplest way to keep employees engaged

Engagement

Since the results of last year’s Gallup Poll showed employee engagement having a big positive impact in a business’ bottom line, many have been talking about it. How good are you at creating engagement? What does employee engagement really mean?

The way that Gallup researchers have developed the measurement, cross-validated and field tested it shows a thread that speaks to the importance of empathy, positive reinforcement, and other "soft skills." In other words, it’s all about communication and relationships.

How can leaders attain open communication and enhance relationships?

  • Listen to employee needs and suggestions and act on them.
  • Connect employees to the needs of the organization by regularly communicating organizational challenges.
  • Build trust by supporting creativity and risk-taking.
  • Be observant to help individuals align their talents with the group's broader interests.
  • Create opportunities and leave space for employees to get to know you and each other better, both within and outside of work.

In other words, find and create every possible opportunity to build relationships.

Remember. . .

The heart of leadership is creating interactive conversations.

It’s all about relating to your people - keep it simple!
